The Noord-Hollands Byzantijns Mannenkoor was founded on the first of April 1993 and counts 25 members. The conductor is Sergé Latychev.
The repertoire consists of liturgical music in the tradition of the Russian Orthodox Church and folk music from Russia and the Ukraine.
The first official performance of this choir took place during the Prinsengrachtconcert in 1995. The choir sang in the Russian language "Aan de Amsterdamse grachten" together with the famous pianist of this concert Anatol Ugorski.
Besides regular performances in The Netherlands the choir already made three concert tours to Russia.
In 1998 the choir went to St. Petersburg and gave performances in the famous Kazan cathedral and a memorable concert together with the Academic Female Choir of St Peterburg in the Kapella, a celebrated concerthall near the Hermitage.
In 2000 the choir travelled to Moscou to give a series of splended concerts, among others on the University of Moscou together with the Moscou State University Choir and two magnificent performances in the Danilov Monastery and the Monastery complex Troitse-Sergieva Lavra.
The final journey took place in 2003 to St. Petersburg due to the celebration of 300 years existence of St Petersburg as well as to Moscou where the choir took part in the ceremonies about the 700th day of death of the holy Danilov, Saint of the Russian Orthodox Church. The critics were marvelous.
Furthermore the choir participated to several broadcastings and produced four CD's.
Finally the choir adopted a children's home in Pushkin, close to St Petersburg. A yearly donation and during the visits several suitcases full of medicine, clothes, shoes and of course toys are brought to the children.
